TMJ Disorder
TMJ pain usually results from jaw muscle spasms. It is identified by palpable pain over the joint and jaw bone areas. Patients may exhibit headaches; ear aches; ringing or a feeling of fullness in the ear; pain behind the eye; neck and shoulder pain; a click upon opening and closing the jaw; and gnashing, grinding teeth, or clenching the teeth.
At the Adler Dental Office we successfully manage most TMJ disorder with small, light, easy to wear, plastic guards, placed over the teeth, usually worn during sleep. TMJ therapy might include occlusal equilibration (balancing the bite), and some simple exercises. Sometimes, pain relievers, anti-inflammatory medication, or muscle relaxants might be necessary.
At Adler Dental Office we use moist heat and ice therapy where necessary. We also educate and counsel our patients on TMJ management techniques.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation
One of the great features of the Adler Dental office is our nitrous oxide service.
Nitrous oxide sedation is designed to relax both adult and children in tense dental situations. It is inhaled through a nose mask placed over the patient’s nose. It is a mild sedative agent designed to safely manage pain and anxiety.
It is also called sweet air, because it is sweet smelling; and it is also referred to as laughing gas, because it actually often makes patients feel like laughing. During its administration, the patient may feel a bit light-headed, and may feel a tingle in the fingers or the toes.
Nitrous oxide works as soon as a few minutes after the nose mask is put on. The patient is relaxed for the entire procedure; but is constantly awake and alert, and the patient can hear and follow directions. It provides a very pleasant dental experience.
The Adler Dental group is expert at properly administering and monitoring nitrous oxide sedation. Once the dental procedure is over, the laughing gas is turned off. The patient breathes in oxygen for a couple of minutes, and the patient is back to his/her normal self.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are designed to replace missing natural teeth in the jaw. At Adler Dental office we painlessly and comfortably place a titanium support rod into the jaw bone. This procedure is almost as simple as placing a filling. Over a three month period the support rod will integrate and fuse with the jaw bone, so that it will provide a very solid foundation for the ultimate crown. We like to wait for total bone integration to take place, in order to be sure that this foundation is very secure for the long term. Once we are sure that the support rod is secure, we simply fabricate a crown which is placed on top of the rod.
Dental implants are a very elegant way of restoring missing teeth. Implants are much more comfortable and more stable than removable dentures. The dental implant looks and functions just like natural teeth. They do not have to be removed to be cleaned, like removable dentures; they stay put in your mouth and are cleaned the same way as natural teeth. Implants do not “slip,” do not “make noise,” and do not damage the natural bone, the way dentures do.
If your jaw bone isn’t strong enough to support an implant, you may require a simple grafting procedure, which is usually done in conjunction with the implant placement. The bone graft will create a very solid foundation for the implant.
The result of properly placed dental implants are “life-changing,” in terms of eating, smiling, and self-confidence.

Oral Surgery
One of the many services offered by the Adler Dental Group is oral surgery. In this category we offer tooth extractions; dental bone grafts; periodontal care, and dental implants.
This service includes treatment to hopelessly decayed teeth and hopelessly broken down teeth.
The Adler Dental team prefers to save natural teeth whenever possible. We do everything in our power to save your teeth, but sometimes, extractions are the only recourse. It is a treatment of last resort, designed to preserve your overall physical and mental health.
If, unfortunately, an extraction is indicated, oftentimes we will recommend a dental bone graft. This is done in order to preserve the density and volume of your bone. Once the bone is preserved, a denture will sit more effectively over the enhanced bone.
Additionally, if a dental implant placement is indicated, the enhanced bone would provide a solid foundation to accommodate the implant. Dental implants are considered to be the most elegant and reliable method with which to insure long-lasting teeth replacement (see Implant section).

Root Canals
Root canal treatment is designed to relieve severe dental pain, where there is infection in the nerve of the tooth. The nerve is carefully and painlessly removed from the tooth. The infected tooth is then cleaned, disinfected, and shaped, so that a special sealer can then fill up the canal space.
As general, family dentists, we at the Adler Dental office have successfully performed thousands of root canal treatments over the years.
With all the great advances in modern dentistry, root canal therapy is no longer a foreboding, painful experience. It is almost as easy as performing a filling. Our goal at Adler Dental Office is to make the root canal experience as pleasant as possible during the actual treatment, and we especially strive to keep our patient comfortable in between visits.

Crowns and Bridges
A crown is designed to cover an entire tooth which has been weakened. A tooth can be weakened by extensive decay or a fracture. A crown is also used to protect a tooth on which root canal therapy has been performed. The crown is intended to restore the tooth to its previous good state of health. Each crown covers only a single tooth, and is relatively simple to fabricate.
A bridge is designed to replace a gap caused by the extraction of a tooth, or a gap resulting from a tooth that has never grown into the mouth. A dental bridge uses the healthy tooth in front of the gap, and the healthy tooth behind the gap, as a support for the entire span. The use of a dental bridge is
- an economical alternative to an implant, or
- is used in a situation in which an implant is not medically indicated.

Cosmetic Dentistry – Veneers – Tooth Colored Fillings
At the Adler Dental office, we pride ourselves in doing all our dentistry in a cosmetic fashion. We perform complex restorative cases, full mouth cosmetic rehabilitation, whitening, implants and laminate veneers. We can improve the appearance of a single tooth, as well as perform full mouth restorations.
A simple way in which to correct crooked, chipped, stained, or decayed teeth, would be to fabricate porcelain laminate veneers. This would involve bonding a thin sheet of porcelain to the front of your teeth. We can improve the size, shape, color and length of your teeth. There may sometimes be a minimum amount of tooth cutting involved in the laminate process.
At Adler Dental office we are also expert in a new advanced technology using the more economical composite veneers. We use cutting edge technology to fabricate composite veneers from materials that simulate the natural tooth structure in color, texture and beauty. There are two types of tooth-colored fillings. One is custom made in the dental laboratory, and the other type, is a white filling fabricated by the dentist directly in the mouth.
The lab-made tooth colored filling is designed for very large restoration; it is smaller than a crown, but larger than a standard size filling. It is constructed from a block of porcelain, and is an exquisite restoration.
A white filling fabricated directly in the mouth is identical to a regular filling, but its color matches that of the tooth. They are inconspicuous and natural in appearance.

Clear Aligners like Invisalign™
Clear aligners are designed to straighten misaligned teeth, crooked teeth, and imperfect bites. Aligners work quicker than metal braces, are more comfortable than metal braces, and are more predictable than metal braces. Most often you can get results in as little as six months.
At Adler Dental office we start with a computer scan of your teeth. This gives us a precise 3D digital scan of your teeth. The aligners are digitally produced to assure the perfect fit.
We have had excellent success with the MOD system of aligners. They are very similar to Invisalign, but are about half the cost. We look forward to giving you the smile of your dreams.

Sensitive Teeth Treatment
At the Adler Dental office, we treat sensitive teeth. There are a number of reasons for sensitive teeth:
- Cavity – a cavity is a “hole” which develops in the tooth. A cavity must be cleaned out by a dentist, and filled with a filling material.
- Gum recession – gum recession, or shrinking gums, can result in sensitivity. As long as the gum covers the tooth properly, the tooth is protected from sensitivity. Once the gum shrinks, it exposes a part of the tooth, which can result in the tooth becoming sensitive. This sensitivity is due to exposure to elements of the saliva, or sensitivity can even occur when there is a quick temperature change in the mouth (e.g. drinking hot tea, or eating cold ice cream).
- A defective filling (or crown) can also result in sensitivity. In such a case, the filling (or crown) must be changed.
- Thinning, or erosion, of enamel, can result in sensitivity. The sensitivity can be eliminated by rebuilding the defective section of the tooth, or sometimes a medicament can be applied to the sensitive tooth surface, which will calm the sensitivity.

Gum Disease Treatment
Periodontal: Scale and Root Plane and Oral Hygiene Teeth Cleaning
Scale and root plane is essentially a deep gum cleaning, below the gum line. Underneath the gum line, there is found a sticky film of bacteria; this is called dental plaque.
As long as a person eats and breathes, this plaque develops on the surface of the teeth. The plaque is formed from the sugars of your food, which combine with bacteria present in your mouth. The plaque can get hard along the tooth surface and will result in a hard layer of tartar (aka calculus) on your teeth.
Once the plaque develops on the tooth surface, it works its way to below your gum line. It must be cleaned well by the dentist and the hygienist. If it is not cleaned well, the bacteria in the plaque will cause the gums to become red, puffy, inflamed, and may even bleed upon being touched. This will result in gum loss, bone loss, a “smelly” mouth, and eventually, loosened teeth. We have special dental equipment that will gently and efficiently clean under your gums.
At Adler Dental Office, we constantly monitor the health of your gums, and recommend various types of cleanings periodically. We want to protect your smile so that you get to keep your teeth for life.

Teeth Whitening or Bleaching
In the Adler Dental office we have researched almost every tooth whitening system under the sun. In our professional opinion, the ZOOM Teeth Bleaching system is the absolute best system available. It is extremely effective in lightening discoloration of enamel and dentin.
The complete procedure takes about an hour, and is completely painless. We can usually get your teeth to be 5-6 shades lighter. However, the chemistry and physiology of each patient’s mouth is different, and results may vary.
The ZOOM Teeth Bleaching system is very easy and comfortable for the patient, and at the same time is very effective and affordable. Whiter teeth will improve your “look,” and make you smile much more.
The Adler Dental Group also provides an extremely effective and painless home whitening system. In most cases it will get your teeth to be about five shades lighter, depending on a number of variables. This system is not available in stores, because it is prescription strength.

Pediatric Dentistry
Adler Dental Office is great with kids. The greatest challenge a dentist faces with children patients, is management. As general, family dentists, we are great at managing children’s fears and anxieties, with our soft welcoming approach to children.
We offer laughing gas to children (as well as to adults), in order to provide a relaxing environment. When necessary, we also offer children (as well as adults) sedative medication, which will calm down the very anxious child. We also are affiliated with a board certified anesthesiologist, who can put children (as well as adults) to “sleep” as is necessary.
One of the great assets of Adler Dental Office, is that we also, very uniquely, offer children, root canal therapy service on damaged adult teeth. This type of service is not widely available to pediatric patients.
We treat all the standard pediatric issues, plus we can repair a chipped tooth and all other unique children’s maladies.

Full and Partial Dentures
A full or partial denture is a removable appliance designed as a replacement for missing teeth. A full denture is fabricated when all the teeth of either the upper or lower jaw are missing; while a partial denture is used to replace a single, or several missing teeth in either jaw.
Both the full denture and the partial denture must be removed daily for cleaning, and should preferably be removed before you go to bed.
There are several types of full or partial dentures.
An immediate full or partial denture can be made before the “sick” teeth are extracted, so that as soon as the “sick” teeth are extracted, the new teeth can immediately be placed into the mouth.
The conventional full or partial denture, on the other hand, is made after the “sick” teeth have been extracted. The conventional denture typically requires fewer adjustments than the immediate denture.
The following refers to the esthetics of a full or partial denture.
The full denture consist of white teeth and a gum colored framework. It’s very natural looking.
There are two types of partial dentures:
The standard partial denture consists of white teeth and a silver-colored metal framework. Instead of the standard partial denture, the Adler Dental Group usually recommends a new “space-age” material for the framework. This material is gum colored, has absolutely no metal in it, and is flexible (almost like a rubber ball).
Finally, the Adler Dental Group also offers you the precision partial denture, which is also removable, but extremely stable. It does not have any clasps at all, but, it is internally attached to adjacent crowns.
